They say what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but I’m hoping they’re wrong. What did I do in Vegas? I met Liz Pelletier, the head of Entangled Publishing and several other key players in the company. I met a ton of authors, shared a lot of laughs, and drank a boatload of coffee. In between the coffee and the laughs I learned about the business of publishing and writing.
I also shared an elevator with a man in full KISS makeup and costume. He stared at me like he expected a comment. I stared at my itinerary for the conference and pretended I didn’t see him because we were together for 18 floors and I didn’t know what the hell else to do.
Vegas made me feel very conservative and midwestern next to the millennials who wandered the hotel in bikini tops and tutus. Yes, you read that correctly. Rainbow colored tutus over bikini bottoms apparently count as a skirt. There was a store in the mall that sold nothing but tutus and bikinis. Apparently this ensemble is in high demand.
Have you ever been to Vegas? What’s the strangest thing you witnessed there?
