I stumbled across a show on Netflix and have quickly become addicted. It’s The Originals. Now I fully admit that I never watched The Vampire Diaries, and apparently the characters of The Originals are a spin off from that show, as in the original Vampires who sired all Vampires. I guess it’s a prequel of sorts.

I know some of you are probably thinking not another show about brooding, hot guys that go all bitey, but there’s more to it than that. The show takes place in New Orleans, in the French Quarter where there are also Werewolves and Witches and a Council of humans who know all about the supernatural people who roam the city.

Throw all four of those groups into a power struggle and you have a very interesting show. There is a huge soap opera aspect and a lot of dark humor. I still can’t decide if the main character Klaus is a tortured hero or a narcissistic psychopath. And yes, in some of the historical flashbacks the men have ridiculous hair, but besides that the special effects are awesome.
