I came home from work last night to discover I’d forgotten to move the hamburger I planned to cook for dinner from the freezer to the refrigerator. (I’d planned to make burgers because my cooking skills are just that stellar.) So I stared at the frozen lump of meat and said a few unsavory words before turning to the microwave. Our current microwave is one I picked up because it was on clearance so I never paid much attention to the fact that it had a button labeled Inverter Turbo Defrost which sort of sounds like something from Doctor Who.

Anyway, it was give the Inverter Turbo Defrost button a shot or eat cereal for dinner, so I took the hamburger out of the package and put it on a plate which I transferred to the microwave. I pressed the magical button and “lb” blinked in the display. I entered 1 and hit start. Five minutes later I had a pound of perfectly defrosted hamburger. How did I not know about this?
