Have you seen Stranger Things on Netflix? It has a freaky monster from another dimension and evil scientists who use kids for their own gain. It’s creepy and surprising and totally different than most of what is on television.

There are also a ton of eighties references that will make you wince and/or laugh, depending on your age. Despite the questionable fashion trends, the eighties are an ideal time to set a story because there were no cell phones and Google didn’t exist.

If the characters have a question they have to go to the library or call their teacher. If they want to talk to someone they have to track that person down. Information can’t be shared with the other characters through a quick text or an email.
