Snippets from Bridges Burned

Chrishome, YA

300You may have noticed my site has a new color scheme. I’m trying to go for something a little less eye-bleeding, but I love color. If you’ve seen the photo of my banner  you’ll notice my walls are turqouise. bigbannerAt least the ones in the foyer and kitchen are. You can see a slice of the opposite wall which is a bright happy sunshine yellow. FYI, my house is open concept which means it’s all one big room except for the bedrooms and the bathroom.  So it’s turquoise to the left and yellow to the right.

You have no idea how hard it was for me to change the background of my site to white. My instincts shout, “Noooooo, make it orange, or red, or blue…but a nice graphic designer I know suggested it was a little busy and bright.

Speaking of colorful and bright, I had a sneak peak at the cover design for Bridges Burned. It’s oh so very pretty and I can’t wait to share it with you. Until then, here are two short snippets that didn’t make it into the book. These are both from a scene that takes place after Bryn and Zavien have a spat.

**snippet one**

“What do you want to do?” Ivy asked Bryn.

“I don’t know.”

“When you figure out what you want, you’ll know what to do,” Clint said.

“That’s either profound, or the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Bryn checked the room for Zavien. He sat across the room with Nola and a few other black dragons. Nola kept her hand on his shoulder in a proprietary manner. While Zavien didn’t push her away, he wasn’t fawning over her either.

The desire to walk over there and whack Nola in the back of the head was strong. Then again, maybe she’d rather whack Zavien. It was a tossup at this point.

**snippet two**

Clint ate a strip of bacon. “If Zavien left Nola for you, you’d both end up banished.”

“I’m okay with that.” The words slipped out too fast.

“You’d give up everything for him?” Ivy asked. “Becoming a medic, getting to know your grandparents, being our friend?”

Aw crap. “I shouldn’t have to give up anything. If Zavien and I love each other, we should be able to be together.”

“Did he tell you he loved you?” Ivy asked.

Double crap. “No but I think he will. Eventually.” Not liking the way this conversation was going, she turned the tables. “What if the Directorate denied your marriage petition? What would you do?”

Clint grimaced. “That’s my greatest fear. If it should happen, I’d find a way to be with Ivy.”

Ivy squeezed Clint’s hand. “I’d find a way to be with him, too. No matter what.”

“This conversation is giving me a headache.” Bryn reached to rub her temples. “Neither of you would even consider running away together? My parents managed it. They’re happy.”
