Sharing the Writing Process Blog Hop.
When Lynn Cahoon asked me if I wanted to participate in a blog hop on my writing process, I jumped at the chance. (hop…jump…get it?) Check out Lynn’s writing at www.lynncahoon.wordpress.com
What am I working on?
Right now I have two WIP’s. That way if one group of characters stops talking to me, I have someone else to play with. My paranormal YA, Going Down in Flames, comes out at the end of April. I’m currently polishing book two in this series, which is tentatively titled, Bridges Burned. I’m also working on a New Adult Urban fantasy, which I’m pitching as a cross between The Matrix and La Femme Nikita.
How does my work differ from others of its genre?
There are some great YA authors out there. What makes my writing different might be my love of snarky banter.
Why do I write what I do?
Uhm…because it’s cheaper than therapy? Seriously though, stories are always spinning in my head. I love to ask, “What if?” Going Down In Flames was inspired by: “What if flames shot out of a girl’s mouth when she turned sixteen? What if her parents ran away from a secret society of shape-shifting dragons to escape arranged marriages? What if they never revealed their true nature because they’d been taught that cross breeding wouldn’t produce a functional shape-shifting dragon?” And then I started writing.
How does your writing process work?
My writing is fueled by caffeine and love for my shitzu, Pete. After dinner, I put my Keurig coffee maker to good use. Then I follow Pete into my office where he asks to be picked up and put in his spot on my desk. He’s the smallest of three dogs, and all he wants is a place where the big dogs can’t bother him. He adopted my desk as his napping place and he expects to sleep there every night after dinner. It’s a win-win situation. He rests peacefully, and I’m inspired to write. I’m a total panster, so I sit down and let the words flow.
I’ve tried outlining. I outlined an entire story once, and then I couldn’t write it because I already knew the ending.
