An Introvert In Vegas

download (1)I think most authors are introverts who learn to go forth and network with other writers, readers, and bloggers. I spent the weekend in Vegas to attend a Book Festival. I spoke on my first panel, and it was terrifying and exciting at the same time. I kind of feel the same way about Las Vegas. The flashing lights, crowds of people, and amazing hotels can be exciting. There’s an energy that runs through Vegas twenty-four hours a day, which is great, but it’s never quiet and it’s always crowded. I value quiet time. I value alone time. I had very little of either on this trip.

Before going to Vegas, i had never seen a middle-aged man walking down the street wearing a leather hat, kiss makeup, and a black leather thong. Sadly, I can no longer say that. The image is burned into my brain. I might need to seek therapy.

I’d also never seen a six-dollar cupcake, a ten-dollar 4-pack of k-cups, or a four-dollar bottle of water. I was slightly offended by this price-gouging. Sure, I put twenty dollars into a slot machine and ended up with a nickel, but that was my choice. I knew the odds were against me, but I decided to play. Stocking my hotel room with bottles of water with tiny little stickers declaring that four-dollars will be added to my hotel if I drink  a single bottle seems rude.

Have you ever been to Vegas? What’s the oddest thing you’ve seen?
