Books priced $2.99 and $3.99, on average, received about four times as many unit sales as books priced over $7.99. For indies who could publish low-priced books that were as good or better than what New York was publishing at higher prices, they were able to out-sell and out-compete the books from the large publishers.
I buy more ebooks than paper books because of the convenience of one-click buying on Amazon. Ebooks bring instant gratification. I can read a book as soon as I discover it rather than making time to run to the bookstore. This is especially helpful and dangerous when it comes to reading a series.
Do I still buy paper books? Yes. When I have time I visit my bookstore, order a caffeinated beverage that has a zillion calories, and wander the aisles hunting for treasures or the latest release from a favorite author. My husband orders a coffee, picks up a magazine and camps out in the cafe until I’m done. He’s learned not to ask how long it’s going to take.
