What does Halloween mean to you? When I was a kid (long, long ago in a far away galaxy) everyone made their own halloween costumes because store bought costumes consisted of cheap plastic masks and vinyl jumpsuits which tied in the back like an apron. Here’s a picture from Pinterest showing these costumes in all their cheap glory.

Every year my mom would help my sister and I make costumes from items we had around the house. And I thought the results were fabulous. One of my favorite costumes as a kid was this princess costume.

After dressing up we would walk around the block, knocking on neighbors doors, collecting candy in our orange plastic pumpkins. There was always that one weird house where they passed out pennies. What was up with that? And there was one amazing house where they passed out full sized candy bars. And then there were those weird peanut butter taffy chews that came in orange and black wrappers. We fed those to our dog, Bo. She loved them.
